This calendar holds the 2027 public holiday lists of eight countries in one view. It has 200 entries, and you can filter them by country. Each entry carries its status and a link to an official source. Where regional lists are merged into one entry, the link points to one of them and the country guide lists the rest. Some dates are still open, such as the UAE’s five Hijri holidays, and the lists sit at different levels. India’s is a central-government list, the US list is federal, and four of the countries publish regional lists.
Two dates stand out. New Year’s Day on Friday, January 1 is on the lists of seven of the eight countries, with India’s central list the exception. Christmas Day on Saturday, December 25 is on the lists of seven too, with the UAE the exception. The UAE’s January 1 follows the standing rule in Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024, which lets the Cabinet move it. Of the 80 dates in the calendar, 57 sit on one country’s list only and 14 on two.

The date comes from the standing rule in Article 1, which names no year. Article 2 lets the Cabinet move public holidays other than the Eid holidays to the beginning or end of the week by its own resolution. The MOHRE notices checked (May 2025 to May 2026) do not cover this date.

Tamil Nadu Act holiday: January 26
Tuesday, January 26. One of the four fixed whole-day holidays in section 3(1) of the Tamil Nadu Industrial Establishments (National, Festival and Special Holidays) Act, 1958. Also on the central Annexure I list as Republic Day.

India’s entry is the central list for Central Government offices in Delhi/New Delhi. Its Tamil Nadu entries come from that state’s holidays Act, read in an archive copy whose currency is unconfirmed. The US list is the federal holiday list, which covers federal employees and does not bind private employers. Scotland’s Christmas Day and Boxing Day substitute days rest on GOV.UK’s list alone, because the Scottish order of July 8, 2026 does not name them. The United Kingdom sits under some lists for December 26 because the day falls on a Sunday and GOV.UK prints a substitute day instead.
On May 17 the lists carry different local names. Germany marks Whit Monday, while India lists Id-ul-Zuha and Singapore lists Hari Raya Haji. Check the name on each list before you assume two offices are closed for the same reason. A status of enacted means the source gives the day a firm date. Announced means an official body has listed the day but a legal instrument or a fixed date is still missing.
Christmas Day falls on a Saturday and Boxing Day on a Sunday, so several countries move the day off. The table keeps each holiday’s own date and adds the day off for the United Kingdom and the United States, whose lists print a different day. GOV.UK prints Monday, December 27 and Tuesday, December 28 as the substitute days in the United Kingdom. What the entry counts do not show
The Australian count is the largest because each state and territory is its own list and several have local days. Some of its entries are part-day holidays, such as Christmas Eve from 7 pm in the Northern Territory and South Australia. Some apply to one area only, and Tasmania’s Easter Tuesday is generally for the Tasmanian Public Service only. The German count includes holidays that apply in only some states or municipalities. The Canadian count keeps a separate entry for a province when its rule, substitute day or date source differs. Read an entry’s region before you count it as a day off for a given employee.
Seven Australian entries, four Indian entries, two Scottish entries and one Canadian entry carry the status announced instead of enacted. The Australian ones are New South Wales’ additional Anzac Day Monday, five Northern Territory show days and Western Australia’s King’s Birthday on September 27. The Scottish ones are the Christmas and Boxing Day substitute days. The Indian ones are the moon-dependent dates. The Canadian one is Nunavut Day on Friday, July 9, which comes from the Government of Nunavut’s public service holiday list, and the Canada guide says its statutory treatment is not confirmed. Each entry’s status and note come from its country guide, so read the guide before you plan around an announced date.
Building a team calendar from these lists
- Start from where each person works, by country and by region within it. The employing company’s country is not enough where holidays vary by region, as they do in Australia and Canada.
- Filter the calendar to those places. Treat the rows shared by every list of a country as candidate closure dates, then check each country’s rule.
- Enter open dates as “date to be announced”. The UAE’s five Hijri holidays are the clearest case.
- Open the country guide for pay rules and substitute days before you publish a coverage rota.
- Check again on the next review date, December 15, 2026, because the UAE and Australian guides are due then.
The steps are a recommendation. They do not replace the country guides, which hold the pay rules.
