Singapore has 11 gazetted public holidays in 2027, and employees covered by the Employment Act are entitled to 11 paid public holidays. Seven fall on a weekday. Chinese New Year starts on a Saturday and ends on a Sunday, and Labour Day and Christmas Day are both Saturdays. For an employee on a 5-day week, that means three holidays on a non-working day and one on a rest day. Monday, February 8 is also a public holiday for employees whose rest day falls on Sunday, February 7.

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) announced the dates on June 18, 2026. Below is each day, what kind of day it is on a 5-day week, and what MOM says about pay.

2027 Singapore public holidays

The dates come from the Government Gazette notice of June 18, 2026. They match the MOM public holidays page, which MOM last updated on June 19, 2026.

Holiday Date Weekday On a 5-day week
New Year’s Day January 1 Friday Working day
Chinese New Year, first day February 6 Saturday Non-working day
Chinese New Year, second day February 7 Sunday Rest day
Chinese New Year, following Monday February 8 Monday Public holiday if the rest day falls on February 7
Hari Raya Puasa March 10 Wednesday Working day
Good Friday March 26 Friday Working day
Labour Day May 1 Saturday Non-working day
Hari Raya Haji May 17 Monday Working day
Vesak Day May 20 Thursday Working day
National Day August 9 Monday Working day
Deepavali October 28 Thursday Working day
Christmas Day December 25 Saturday Non-working day

The February 8 row is not a twelfth holiday. It is the day that replaces Sunday, February 7 for an employee whose rest day it is. The gazette footnote and MOM’s press release say the following Monday is a public holiday without a condition, while MOM’s page adds the rest-day condition. Plan on February 8 being a holiday for staff whose rest day is Sunday, and ask MOM about staff who have a different rest day.

How MOM says to pay for each kind of day

On a 5-day week, Saturday is the non-working day and Sunday is the rest day. MOM sets the pay by the kind of day the holiday lands on.

  • Working day. An employee who works should be paid an extra day’s salary at the basic rate of pay, and a monthly-rated employee’s gross salary already includes payment for the holiday.
  • Non-working day. The employee is entitled to another day off or one extra day’s salary in lieu of the public holiday, at the gross rate of pay.
  • Rest day. The following working day is a paid public holiday.

In 2027 that puts the first day of Chinese New Year, Labour Day and Christmas Day under the non-working day rule, and the second day of Chinese New Year under the rest day rule. MOM’s table also sets overtime pay for extra hours worked on a Saturday and rest-day work pay for work on a rest day.

MOM’s page lists two conditions for the gross rate of pay on a holiday. The first is that the employee was not absent without consent or a reasonable excuse on the working day before or after the holiday. The second is that the employee was on authorized leave on one of those days. Pay is not due when the holiday falls on approved unpaid leave. The page does not say whether both conditions must be met or either one, so check it before refusing holiday pay to anyone who was absent around a holiday.

Who the rules cover

The 11 paid holidays apply to employees covered by the Employment Act. An employee who is not covered gets public holidays according to the employment contract. Seafarers, domestic workers and statutory board employees or civil servants are not covered by the Act.

Part 4 of the Act, which deals with rest days and hours of work, applies to a workman (someone doing manual labor) earning a monthly basic salary of $4,500 or less, and to another covered employee earning $2,600 or less. Part 4 does not cover all managers or executives. For an employee outside Part 4, the employer can give time off in lieu for work on a public holiday. If employer and employee do not agree on the duration of time off in lieu, the employer can pay an extra day’s salary at the basic rate of pay for one day’s work. It can instead give time off on a working day: 4 hours for 4 hours of work or less, and a full day for more than 4 hours.

MOM’s public holidays entitlement and pay page does not set out a rule for daily-rated or hourly-rated employees, so confirm that with MOM before you write it into a policy. The President can also declare another public holiday by Gazette notification, so recheck the list if an extra day is announced.

What to do before the year starts

Sort your staff by week pattern, because the same holiday is a working day for one team and a rest day for another. List each person’s non-working day and rest day, mark the 2027 holidays that land on them, and decide in advance whether you pay an extra day’s salary or give another day off. Then put the dates into your leave calendar.

For other countries, see Public Holidays 2027 by Country. Singapore Employment Law Changes 2027 covers the other dates that change for employers in 2027, and UK bank holidays in 2027 for employers and Federal holidays in 2027 and holiday pay cover the UK and US. The Get ready for 2027 play lists the documents to update, and the holiday pay entry defines the term.

Start with the three Saturday holidays: for each employee on a 5-day week, write down whether February 6, May 1 and December 25 will be paid as a day off or as an extra day’s salary.

How we track these dates

When the official source gives only a month or a quarter, we show that. We never guess a day.

Every date links to the page we read it on, and we check each one again before the next review date.
